Great last day at the climbing gym

Posted August 30th, 2010 in ,

Yesterday I made a sort-of impromptu trip to the climbing gym. We had gone on Friday, which was our planned last day at ARG for awhile as we’ll be heading to Virginia this weekend. However, at the very end of the session (i.e. right before we had to leave) I found this very cool V4+ overhanging problem in the cave that I managed to play on for two minutes, which was apparently enough to get me so excited about it that I couldn’t stop thinking about it and had to go back. Plus, all the cave problems at the south…

Four consecutive days of climbing / running / pull-ups

Posted August 24th, 2010 in , ,

I climbed four days in a row over the weekend. Went to the climbing gym Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday. Though Friday and Saturday’s sessions were lighter sessions, my arms, hands, and fingers are definitely feeling it today. Not too sore, just tired. But in a good way.

Yesterday I also went running outside on the trail for the first time in awhile (a week or so) and it was hard. I went in the morning to avoid the brutal heat, though it was still pretty hot at 8AM. I went 6+ miles at a slow pace, and I’m just glad I…

Getting stronger…

Posted August 17th, 2010 in

The past few climbing sessions at the climbing gym have felt really, really awesome. While we’d rather climb outside, a group of us splurged on a one-month membership to the gym a few weeks ago due to the extreme heat we have been experiencing in Texas as of late. And the gym does help you get strong very fast. After all, we all have high goals to climb much stronger grades so we can project all those outdoor boulder problems we couldn’t even sniff before.

I’m a relatively new climber, so don’t laugh when I celebrate sends of grades that any…

A small break in the routine

Posted August 16th, 2010 in ,

I took a break this past weekend from working out and instead spent most of it outside in 105-degree weather. Chill’s team Flux played at Texas 2 Finger and I made the conscious decision that I would rather mill around the sidelines rather than playing. Even so, it was still brutal - yes, walking and sitting in the sun and 105 degrees is difficult - I feel like I had an exhausting weekend anyway!

It was fun though. Friday night we drove up early to catch the Boston Red Sox - Texas Rangers game with a bunch of friends, which was really…

Two-a-days might become a more regular thing

Posted August 11th, 2010 in , ,

I’ve done two-a-days before. Probably not like how real athletes do two-a-days, but more along the lines of going to the gym in the morning or lunch and for a mix of cardio and core, and then doing something else later (like running or ultimate or climbing), or vice versa. This would happen maybe once or twice a month… some months.

So yesterday was my first “real” two-a-day. During lunch I went to the gym and did 30 minutes of semi-light cardio on the arc trainer and my usual core workout (100 slow sit-ups on the exercise ball + back and…

Finally, a new post! And a slight change in direction…

Posted August 11th, 2010 in ,

So it’s been awhile since I’ve written to this thing, but after glancing at the titles of the last few posts (from last year!), I think it’s safe to say that not much has changed. No, I haven’t gotten more kidney stones (thankfully), but I am still addicted to climbing and am still doing all the things that I usually do: work, music, ultimate, and sports. But I guess you can say that about my the past six years of my life…

One thing that has changed is that I’m now eating breakfast! If you know me then this is a…
